After the Swiss press criticised the referee’s decision in their Euro 2020 quarter-final with Spain, ex-footballer Gary Lineker and former German referee Manuel Grafe agreed with them.

There have been more opinions on the referee’s performance in the Switzerland versus Spain game in the quarter-finals of the Euros. Michael Oliver gave a very controversial red card after a bad challenge on Freuler and the Swiss press complained. Gary Lineker and Manuel Grafe did not think it was a red either.

Lineker, who works for the ‘BBC’ said: “Another red card for virtually nothing.” A user asked if he was disappinted with the referee’s decision or the rules and he said “Both”. In the end, Spain won on a penalty shootout.

Manuel Grafe, a recently retired German referee spoke on ‘ZDF: “A yellow card would have been enough.” Even though it looked bad initially, the player won the ball first and then he caught Gerard Moreno.

Spain went through to face Italy in the semi-finals while Switzerland left ruing a poor red card decision.
